Facebook Liter - A Greasemonkey Script (from Matt!)
View →So I’ve been slaving away hacking together a few grease monkey scripts for two days now (don’t ask) and I’m glad to report that they are finished. Several notes before we get started. A lot of this code is written by Daniel Morrison and Markus Carlson, I worked to remove unnecessary features and fine tune things (credit where credit is due). The majority of the work was done in order to preserve the general layout of Facebook Lite. All of the other scripts available just get rid of the ads and stretch the content to 60%. This ends up making Facebook Lite look messy.
These scripts will:
* Remove Facebook ads from Lite (thus the moniker, “liter”)
* Keeps content more-or-less the same size and just centers it
* Causes the top navigation to scroll with the user for faster navigation
* Removes “Facebook |” from the title of pages
* Creates larger rollover previews of images (very cool - you’ll see)
How to install the scripts:
* You must be using Firefox
* You must have the Greasemonkey add-on installed (get it here)
* Now simply click here, here and here in order to install the scripts.
* Note that you must install all three for things to function properly!
* To make sure that all three are installed click on ‘Tools’ > ‘Greasemonkey’ > ‘Manage User Scripts…’ In the left part of the new menu that opens you should see, in black not grey, the names ‘Facebook Liter (pt1),’ ‘Facebook Liter (pt2)’ and ‘Facebook Liter (pt3).’ These may occur in any order, so do not be worried if pt2 comes before pt1, etc.
* That’s it! You’re ready to browse Facebook Lite.
* If you’re having any problems, send me a tweet (tooredrabbit)!
If these scripts ever stop functioning it is likely because Facebook has made changes to their code. Especially in Lite, this may occur often. Just come back here and I’ll have updated the scripts or I’ll get to work doing so.
